Cinderella....Maybe

Hi everyone!
I've finally finished my fanfic yay!
It's based on the fairytale Cinderella, but it's a different setting. Some of the charachters have changed..it's a modern day cinderella type thing..
It's quite long so you'd better get some popcorn before you start to read it.haha..
This is my first time writing fanfic and man it was a task.
Anyways hope you guys like it!

He was born the eldest child into a seemingly ‘perfect’ uptown suburban family.
His parents were rich...University educated doctors…Living in three story luxury with everything you think a boy could want. His family had it all…
All… except for happiness..
They say that money can buy you love..
In this case… totally not true..
Money bought them the image..The charade of happiness..
Especially for him..For Ben..
He was the popular guy at school, he was captain of the rugby team.
His girlfriend was the hottest chick in school, and there was no shortage of guys lining up wanting to be his best friend..
He had everything..but yet he had nothing..
Ben was hiding his true self from everyone..
Lying in bed every night, confused as to why he was crying..
He had no answer..
He was an empty soul, searching for that what was missing…

She was born an only child into a loving family.
Her family was old money..Her Father inherited his mother’s fortune when she died..
Her family was rich..But they weren’t about the money..
They were a happy family..
Her Mother was a beautiful being, and her father was a wonderful caring man.
She loved her parents dearly..
She had a wonderful life..
Until one day, when it all changed..
When Jemma came home from school, she went about things as usual..
But hours passed and her parents hadn’t come home yet..
Worried, Jemma tried to call their cellphone..
But no answer..
Then it came.
Knock knock..
It was the police
They came bearing horrible news..
Her parents had died in a car accident.
Jemmas world came crashing down, nothing could make this any worse…

Days later, another knock came at the door.
Knock knock.
It was her father’s half sister..
Her aunt..
She was an evil spirited woman, who had permanent dollar signs flashing in front of her eyes.
With her came her aunt’s two daughters..Mightly ugly on the inside and out..
Her Aunt took over her Father’s money and changed everything..
Jemma now lived in the attic; her Aunt was horrible to her..
She had to clean, cook, she was their slave..
Jemmas wonderful life had vanished..
Lying in bed every night, she would cry..
She was now an empty soul, searching for something to fill what was missing..

This is a story about a boy, and a girl, and love..

Ben and Jemma..

It was Monday..Back to school.
His clothes were already laid out, breakfast made for him and his lunch money on the table..
“Bye Ben, have a great day at school, your father and I will be late home again tonight. We’re swamped at work” This is typical, Ben’s Mum squeeled this just about every morning before she went to work.

Her clothes were missing; she looked out the window to find that her two cousins had thrown them in the pool.
“Jemma!! Where’s my breakfast?!!” Her Aunt’s voice sounded like nails on a chalkboard in the morning.
She pulled her hair back and quickly ran down to the kitchen.
This is typical, this is how it was for Jemma everyday now..

Brrrriingg!
Everyone runs into class..
“O.K everyone, I’ve got the tests results from last weeks test”
Ohh no, Ben sinks into his chair..He knows what’s coming..
Quietly confident, Jemma knew she’d get a good mark..English was her strongest subject..
Squinting his eyes, Ben looked at his test..N.A on the front..He failed.
Come and see me after class Ben, was written below it.
Flipping the sheet over, Jemma smiles..E on the front..She had got Excellence.
Come and see me after class Jemma, was also written on her paper aswell.

Class finishes.
He slowly makes his way up to the teacher’s desk.
She does the same.
“Ben, this is the third assesment you’ve failed this year for english. We’ve got two more left, both worth half of your course credits..If you pass these, you’ll just be able to save yourself from failing english”….Ben realises that if he fails english, he won’t get his scholarship to play rugby next year..
“I want you to pass Ben, and I know you won’t be able to do it by yourself so…I want you to meet your tutor… Jemma..”
“WHAT!” both of them shellshocked..
“There’s no way I’m getting tutored by a girl sir!” Ben said
“Who says I want to tutor you anyway!” Jemma said.
“Hey hey, that’s enough you two..Now..There’s no choice..Jemma you have to tutor him and Ben you have to let her tutor you..She’s the top of the class..End of discussion”
“Our next assesment is in two months, so you two better start today”

Jemma couldn’t believe this, with what little time she had to herself she had to tutor Ben, whom from first impressions she disliked very much.
He couldn’t believed it either, getting tutored…hah what are his friends going to say..

Days passed and Ben and Jemma spent nearly every spare moment they had together..
It wasn’t as bad as they both thought it was..
There was something about Jemma that Ben found comforting, he had never met a girl like her before.. she had a good heart..
He could be himself around her, she was a good tutor too. He was starting to improve..
Lying in bed every night, he wasn’t crying anymore..He would find himself thinking about her..about Jemma..
Everyday was hard work for Jemma, having to do everything for her Aunt and cousins..They treated her badly..
But she was finding that ever since she met Ben, these things didn’t affect her as much as they used to.
She looked forward to seeing him everyday..He gave her hope..

Two months had passed and the day arrived, it was the day of the assesment.
Just before the test started Ben gave Jemma a bracelet, there was half a pendant on it. She had one half, and he had the other..
“Thank you ben” Jemma whispered.
“It’s ok Jem, ” ….Ben was falling for her.You could tell by the way he looked at her.
But, there was one problem..If you don’t remember, Ben already had a Girlfriend.
Victoria, and she was best friends with whom else but Jemma’s two evil cousins..

The school Ball was coming up and Ben really wanted to go with Jemma..
He was trying to figure out a plan so that he could break up with Victoria, tell Jemma how he feels and ask her to go to the ball with him.
Needing help, he went to his friends for advice..
He was nervous to tell her in person, so they suggested he write Jemma a letter.
In the letter, he told Jemma about how he felt..He was empty before she came along..She was the thing that was missing from his life.He wrote that if she felt the same way about him then to meet him in the courtyard just before the ball starts and then they could be together.
Jemma was sick at home, so he was unable to give the letter to her, so… he stupidly gave the letter to her cousins to pass on..

Opening the letter, her cousins read of Ben’s feelings and his plans on the night. No no no..They couldn’t let this happen….They definetly didn’t want Jemma to be happy. So, when they got home they hid the letter in the garden.

Jemma was lying in bed, daydreaming about Ben.
She had no idea of the mischief her two cousins had just been up to.
She really wanted to go with Ben, she was waiting for him to ask her..
She would only go if Ben asked her..

It was the day of the ball and Ben was looking forward to it, dreaming of what Jemma would say to him if she turned up.
Jemma had no idea of the arrangements because she had never received the letter..
She waited by the phone..Maybe he would call her…He did not call..She still waited..But he did not call..
Her heart was broken….

Not knowing that Jemma hadn’t received the letter, he waited for her still in the courtyard..
But she was not coming…
He waited and waited for her…
She still did not come..
His heart was broken…

The clock struck eight..The ball had started..
He went inside without her..

So upset, Jemma couldn’t sit still..
She put on her coat and went outside to get some fresh air..
The wind was strong..
She walked down to the garden and sat there.
Face buried in her hands..There was silence..
Until…..Ssmack!
“Ouch!”
The wind had blown something into her face….
It was the letter..

Tears fell down her face as she read the letter….
She realised what had happened.

“I’ve got to tell him how I feel!”.

Jemma ran upstairs and put on her dress..
She did her hair and make-up..She looked beautiful.
She ran down the stairs and sprinted to the ball as fast as she could..Hoping that Ben would still be there..

Ben had just about enough..He didn’t want to be there anymore..Not if Jemma wasn’t there..He was going to leave..

Jemma was nearly there…

Ben was leaving, he picked up his bag and started to walk out the door….

Then, he heard her voice
“Ben!!, Ben!!, wait!” it was Jemma. She got there just in time..
Ben turned, he looked up..Jemma was running down the stairs after him..
She looked beautiful.
He picked her up as she came towards him..Swinging her around in his arms.
“ I need to tell you something, Jemma said”
“ I didn’t get your letter til now..I was waiting for you to tell me how you felt..I thought you didn’t feel the same about me..So, I stayed home..You need to know that I feel the same way about you..You are what I’ve been searching for..you are what’s missing in my life.

So elated, Ben draws her nearer to him…
He’s crying, he is so happy..
She is crying, she is so happy…
They kiss…

This was it, the boy and the girl had found their missing piece..

They had found love…

Hi everyone!
Yaay!i'm so glad!finally finished my fanfic..
took so long to finish..
It's based on the fairytale cinderella..
But it focuses both on the girl and girl..
Their stories are intertwined, so it's written differently.
it's set in a different time and setting..
I hope you guys like it!

Hi Melissa
I really loved your story. You write beautifully and I think you're like Jemma with English as your strongest subject. Perhaps psychology too? I thought you depicted the difficult teenage years well and incorporating the NCEA grading system set it nicely in NZ. I loved your use of language: 'the charade of happiness', 'an empty soul', 'permanent dollar signs flashing in front of her eyes'. Also good incorporation of the original Cinderella storyline.
Well done. Loved it.

Beautiful, I was caught up in the story, even though it looked quite long and the story has been thrashed, It was very refreshing to read your version of Cinderella. It had all the traditional aspects of the original, but you really nailed it in making it your own. I love your use of “empty soul” such
a powerful description, and it really captured the soul of the story, love. I also liked the scene about Jemma sitting in the garden having the letter blown by the wind and landing in her face, It gave the story a sense of destiny intertwined with love and made very enjoyable to read.
Good to see romantics are still around.

Hey Melissa
Great fan fiction, i actually really loved it. The length wasn't really an issue at all, i liked how you said only a few things on each line(at times followed by several fullstops.... It made it really clear as to what was happening when.
I also liked haw you gave a nice prologue at the start describing both the main characters and giving them their own backgrounds.
I found myself thinking Awwwww at the end of it lol.
