Stranger's Stargate Fanfiction
Daniel, You Dog
For all the trouble it was causing him, the device was relatively small. Compared to the table like structure that had caused the time loop, this was more of a cabinet. It actually reminded him of his bedside table at home…if his bedside table were made from red stone, lapis-blue crystal, covered in buttons and Ancient inscriptions.
Also, his bedside table had never caused him this much mental stress.
SG-12 had brought it back two weeks ago, and he still couldn’t figure out what it was for. The translation hadn’t been a problem, but all it told him was that the device was for altering the shape of biological matter.
That was the short version, of course. The long version extolled the virtues of the machine with much flowery language and very little actual explanation. As far as Daniel could figure, it was a little known inventor’s first success and he had emblazoned the fact across his creation for all to see and gloat about.
Pompous bastard.
He was tempted to kick the thing just to see if something would happen. But Sam would never forgive him if he broke another potential doodad before she could get her clever mitts on it. Also, the ‘altering the shape of biological matter’ bit sounded rather promising.
Sighing, one Doctor Daniel Jackson picked up his notes and settled in front of the dread machine again. Maybe if he went over it again…just maybe he had missed something…
“Danny-boy!”
Yes, a distraction! Thank you God! This was the one time he would not abhor human company while working. Even grating, childish, Jack-like company. Of course, that didn’t mean he was going to show he was glad to see Jack. He had a reputation to keep up.
“Jack,” he muttered.
Completely undissuaded, General I-have-Much-Better-things-to-do-than-Paperwork-like-Bug-You plunked himself on the spare stool and proceeded to fidget like his life depended on it. Chin on his fist and expertly twirling an archaic fountain pen in the other hand, he asked the inevitable question.
“So…whatcha doin’?”
Daniel threw down his notes. “Being frustrated. I still don’t know what it does. The writing just doesn’t give any indication as to what it does apart from going on about how great it is.”
“But we know it alters flesh right?”
“Something like that. Biological matter at any rate, although it does specify flesh, yes.”
Jack inspected the translation lazily. “Reads like an ad for cheap plastic surgery if you ask me.”
Daniel’s eyebrows had a really good go at rising beyond his hairline.
“’Kay. I guess that’s one way it might…work.”
Jack grinned again. “Ancients gettin’ plastic surgery. Conceited bastards.” He gave Daniel a look that was deliberately speculative and suspicious. “Wonder if you had any work done while you were up there.”
Daniel was tempted to throw the thing at him. Instead he just scowled.
Jack smirked.
“By the way, noticed something interesting this morning. In the medical reports that came through.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah.” The General had resumed fiddling with the fountain pen, idly watching it pirouette between his fingers. “Saw a name I never thought we’d come across again.” He paused and watched Daniel with a calculated air. “Doctor Sarah Gardner. Imagine that.”
Daniel suddenly became very busy rearranging his notes. “Uh, yeah,” he mumbled, “imagine that.”
Jack let out a frustrated noise. “Daniel. What is she still doing in the Springs? It’s been months. Just about seven of them in fact. I thought she’d’ve gone home by now; gotten shot of this place.”
The archeologist pinched the bridge of his nose, looking pained. “The psychs won’t let her go. Say she’s got unresolved issues tying her up. Tying her here. Tying her to…me. Or something. She was kind of…in a state when she told me this.”
Jack, reading between the lines (not that it was hard or anything…), smirked again and proceeded to rile up his best friend.
He leant forward, against the Ancient device, saying, “Daniel, you dog –”
There was an eye-blotting flash of white and both men went reeling away from the machine.
When he could see again, Jack, his eyes watering furiously, peered around Daniel’s office. Where had he…?
Oh no.
The machine had apparently taken Jack at his word, for there beside Daniel’s stool, blinking those extraordinary blue eyes and shaking his dark hair, was a golden retriever.
Grinning up at Jack, he paused to sneeze, and wag his tail a few times for good measure.
Jack felt his heart sink to his toes. The President was going to kill him.
My ten fan-fiction sites
This site states it is the 'World's largest fanfiction archive and forum where fanfic writers and readers around the globe gather to share their passion’. There are several different categories you can choose from: anime, cartoons, books, games and tv shows. Some of the entries under tv shows include: Dawson’s Creek, Blue Heelers, StarTrek, and Thunderbirds, but also newer shows such as Prison Break and Scrubs.
This is a site focusing on Jane Eyre the classic novel by Charlotte Bronte. There are different takes on the story; some humourous and some written from the point of view of other established characters.
Aesop’s Fables with Harry Potter crossover. A collection of stories using characters from Harry Potter. Most of them have a “What would happen if …” storyline and lessons are learnt relating to the morals of the fables.
Fairy Tales and Fables fan-fiction. This site re-tells favourite fairytales such as Rumpelstiltskin, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast and Sleeping Beauty. The stories are modernized with alternative plots or endings.
Coronation Street. This is a site where people have written episodes of the soap Coronation Street. The fan-fiction versions are set post the exit of Mike Baldwin from the series.
The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. Adaptations of the children’s favourite story by C.S. Lewis, set in England during WWII. This is the story from which the Narnia series developed. This site contains a poem, written in a series of four line stanzas, of the story.
James Bond fan-fiction. This site contains fan-fiction based on the popular film characters James Bond 007, Moneypenny, etc. Many of the entries are set post Casino Royale, which featured the new James Bond actor Daniel Craig.
For fan-fiction on the much loved story Pride and Prejudice, this is an interesting site containing modernized versions of this classic. One of the stories is set in the 1960’s and crosses Pride and Prejudice characters with the Beatles, another is an Australian version of the story.
As a novice fan-fiction writer, I have included some sites containing advice on how to write fan-fiction. This site entitled ‘How to write better fan-fiction’ provides guidance using quick reference steps to follow.
This is another site dealing with how to write fan-fiction. It contains headings: ‘What is fan-fiction’ and ‘How can I become a better writer’. Much of the advice also relates to other forms of creative writing.
some examples of fan fics
Because I’m am most likely going to do a fan fiction about Dr who
I am including some Dr who fan fictions I found, there all fan fictions about Dr Who but it just shows some of the different style of fan fictions such as cross overs etc.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4318119/1/Amnesia
I thought this was sort of interesting, if u can look past the spelling and the grammar, you can see that the writer has given an inanimate object a voice or internal dialog which is written in italics.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4447652/1/Power_of_Words
This is an example I found of a crossover of two different genres, Harry Potter and Dr Who.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4437080/1/The_Journey_starts_here
This fan fiction removes an integral part of the story, one which would normally help progress the plot forward, not sure that it works but yea.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4159023/1/Silver_Memories
What the writer has done in this fan fiction is tell the story from the point of view of a different character rather than the main one.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4450399/1/We_must_not_look_at_goblin_men
Like the previous example this is told from a different point of view but this time it is from a completely new character to the story.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4450142/1/Close_Every_Door
This is a song fiction, it mixes what is predominantly a song with bits of a story and the song also telling a part of the story.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4433957/1/Doctor_Who_Season_5
This is an example of someone who has to write an entire season of episodes, more significantly I think the length of the text is about what I am expected to write.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4447879/1/The_Human_TARDIS
This fan fiction does a cross not between two different genres but between two different times in the series. Because time travel is a significant plot device in Dr Who the writer has reunited an old version of the doctor with the new one.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4371629/1/Thoughts_Of_Universes_and_Parallel_Worlds
This is basically a fans poem about Dr who it doesn’t really tell that much of a story in the traditional sense but is fan fiction none the less.

The wiki page for fan fictions gives a broad description of what a fan fiction is and where they started.

Coronation Street crossover with Jane Eyre
“That’s it”, she said. “I can’t take any more of her nonsense. And I’m up to here with Ken as well.”
Blanche walked into the kitchen and sat at her usual perch. She said to Deidre: “My you look a sight. What’s up with you today?”
“I can’t take anymore of this mother. I need to get right away from here. I’ve decided to pack up and live in New Zealand for a while.”
“New Zealand! Why in heaven’s name would you go to New Zealand? It’s on the other side of the world for goodness sake. You can’t do that and leave me here to fend for myself! How could you?”
“I’m sorry but I’ve spent the last few years worrying myself sick about everyone and all their troubles. I need to clear my head, make a fresh start and get out of here.”
“Just charming that is, I must say” replied Blanche. “After all I’ve done for you. Now you just pack up and walk out on me. And what about Ken? I know you’ve had a rough time lately, but you can’t shove years of marriage away just like that.”
“Oh yes I can. He’s tucked up nicely with that woman. He doesn’t want me anymore. She can have him!” Deidre sniffed and left the room.
Unbeknown to others, Deidre had been having an on-line romance for the past few months with her former lover, a man called Edward. They had split when she found out he was married. She was furious at the time, but later heard that his wife had been very unstable mentally for a long time. He’d never mentioned it to her. Apparently she burned their house down and died trying to jump from the roof during the fire. Edward was badly injured trying to rescue her. Apparently he needed months of reconstructive surgery afterwards. He then decided to head down-under and live in New Zealand.
Some years later, Deidre located him through an internet site and found he lived in Auckland. They began corresponding daily, sometimes many times a day. He had been a rock to her through her recent crises, encouraging her to put the past behind and start afresh with him over there. She initially dismissed the idea but as time went on she changed her mind. She made the decision to visit him only last week. She had been surfing the net as part of her coursework for the writing paper she’d had been attending at university and happened to click upon an airfares website. She saw she could get an economy class one-way ticket for under a thousand quid. She booked and paid for it right then.
So here she was, the night before her departure. She’d not told anyone of her intentions, except Edward that is, and felt terrible keeping it from her mother until now, but she knew how difficult Blanche could be and decided the less time for her to get her head around the idea the better.
She hauled the biggest suitcase she could find out of the store cupboard. In went the clothes, papers and other items she’d secretly put aside for the journey. She wondered if this really was what she should be doing. Too late for second thoughts though, the ticket’s paid for now and she wasn’t wasting it. It was 11pm when she finally had her gear packed and ready. She sent a final message to Edward who quickly replied saying how excited he was that he’d be seeing her soon. One more sleep and I’m out of here, she thought before dozing off.
The morning came and she booked a cab through Steve’s company to take her to the station and onto the airport. She lied to Steve and told him she was going to France for a while. The street could be tortuous with gossips. The swords really come out in cases like this. To heck with them all, she thought, they’ll find out soon enough.
She arrived at the terminal and felt chuffed that she’d made her seat booking on-line on Edward’s advice. The normal check-in queue seemed to go on forever, but she was sorted in less than ten minutes. She sat down quietly and collected her thoughts and before long was in the aircraft bound for New Zealand via Los Angeles. Several hours into the flight she grew tired, but also felt the excitement and nerves welling inside her.
She felt she knew Edward so well again from their chats and photos. He’d promised to be there to collect her. The thought crossed her mind what would happen if he didn’t show. Her heart began to thump and she ordered another brandy and swallowed a sleeping tablet. She slept soundly for many hours. The plane stopped briefly to refuel in Los Angeles and continued on. By this stage she was dying for a fag. She watched a couple of movies instead, walked around the cabin and had a few more drinks to steady her nerves before napping again. Before long the captain announced the landing into Auckland was imminent. Hurriedly she rushed to the bathroom to freshen up. She put on her favourite perfume – her lucky one, and carefully outlined her lips in a red glossy lipstick.
The plane landed and she disembarked. She moved swiftly through Customs, Immigration and the agriculture x-rays. Then she pushed her trolley through the arrival doors and looked around expectantly for Edward. There was a tallish man with short dark hair that was going grey, thick eyebrows, and olive skin standing by a pillar. She knew instantly this was Edward. He pushed forward through the crowd and threw his arm around her. “This is the best I’ve felt for years” she whispered to him. She noticed he’d hardly changed at all except for a large scar on his arm and another one over his left eye. They clung close to one another. Later he began to explain about his scars. Deidre put her hand on his lips. “It makes no difference. I’ve come back to you” she said.
